Text Box: BIO
Tahsin Reza Hossain is a Professor of Structural Engineering Division, Department of Civil Engineering. He joined the department in June 1991 as Lecturer after completing his B.Sc.Engg from BUET. He completed MSc.Engg in Structural Engineering in 1993 and was promoted to the post of Assistant Professor in early 1994. In the same year, he left for London to take up his PhD studies at Imperial with an award of Commonwealth Scholarship. He returned to BUET in 1999 and became Associate Professor in December, 2002. And in 2008, he joined as Professor.
Even though Tahsin has specialization on reinforced concrete structures, he has a varied interest in general fields of Structural Engineering which includes numerical modeling of structures; analysis and design of building, bridge, tower, jetty etc. From his PhD background with time-dependent behavior of flat plate structures he has special interest in short and long-term deflection computation for serviceability assessment of concrete slabs considering cracking, creep, shrinkage, load history etc. and supervised a number of MSc and MEng thesis on this topic. He has also supervised work on in-plane load carrying behavior of masonry structures. In recent years he has developed an interest in Earthquake Engineering and currently working with seismic performance of structures with special emphasis on repair and retrofitting techniques.
Tahsin loves to read, listen to music and take photos.
